Not sure if this still lives on or has been suggested, but how about this as a baseline: making the map smaller?

Considering that we'll most likely get new nations joining the region as we continue the revival process, minimizing the map may be a good idea. The current amount of landmass is outdated and once it's cleared of dormant nations, there will be more land than nations.
I'd recommend decreasing the map's size or available landmass (whichever one is easier to achieve) by about 15% or more and increasing the landmass scale by 20%. It will make for more intimate and immediate relations between our newly revamped nations' storylines. In addition, it will provide enough land to accommodate nations with larger populations. If more nations join, we'll have a sort of "exploration era" where new continents can be discovered.

I would agree with the idea, we should shrink the map to one maybe two continents and only expand it when more nations enter the region
